Globally, water is a fundamental pillar to achieve the goals of sustainable development in economic, social, and environmental dimensions. However, water security is a prerequisite for the realization of these goals where the relation between water and sustainable development is a reciprocal relationship.

This correlation poses a significant challenge in the Arab region, especially under the existing water situation. This requires the preparation and implementation of effective policies and solutions needed to ensure sustainable water resources for various uses. The sessions of this axis shall focus on the following main topics:

1.         Water security in the strategic planning process on the regional and national levels.

2.         Economic and social evaluation of water allocation.

3.         Economies of water management.

4.         Institutional development and governance as a base for developing water and sanitation services.

5.         Effective management for mechanisms of funding and investment in the water sector and involvement of the private sector.

6.         Promote the use of technology and modern techniques in water resources management.

7.         Effective strategies and indicators’ monitoring mechanisms to achieve the sixth goal of sustainable development (SDG6).
