Fourth Arab Water Conference

Arab countries are among the most vulnerable to water scarcity in the world. Considering around 362 million out of 420 million persons are living in the Arab region under water scarcity to absolute water scarcity. However, the Arab region faces huge and tremendous challenges and risks threatening its sustainable water resources due to increased demand, high population growth, increased number of refugees, consequences of Corona Pandemic, inefficient water resources management, combined with the effects of climate change, in addition to the difficult geopolitical reality of having more than 60% of water resources outside its borders and the Israeli greed for Arab water.

 

The water challenges that face the Arab region such as lack of control over water resources, limited resources available and poor water and sanitation services are part of a set of pivotal important issues starting from low agricultural productivity, food insecurity, inefficient use of precious resources to unemployment and poverty. It is an essential part of the ability to respond to global developments, mainly the Corona pandemic. These challenges require concrete efforts and enhanced Arab cooperation and integration to achieve Arab water security.

 

One of these common tools of Arab cooperation, and subject to Arab Water Council (AWC), the State of Palestine, Arab Water Experts Network, will cooperate with the technical secretariat of AWC on organizing the 4th Arab Water Conference under the auspices of HE the president “Mahmoud Abbas” – President of the State of Palestine, which will take place in the Arab Republic of Egypt – Cairo, during the period from 30th  November to 1st  December of 2022 entitled “Arab Water Security for Life, Development & Peace”. The conference coincides with the 14th   session of the Arab League’s Arab Ministerial Water Council in addition to the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people which is an opportunity to focus on and highlight the Palestinian water rights usurped by the Israeli occupation.
